Transition to Global Nursing

With advances in the healthcare sector, nurses around the world have adopted greater responsibilities. Nurses in today’s world have evolved from being a doctor’s assistant to an integral part of the life-saving health workforce. With the transformation in the role of the nurse and with added duties, a role of a nurse has emerged to be that of a  leader. A nurse leader has to guide other health care professional and ensure that they are abiding by the high standards of the safety and care.

Why Does Nursing Leadership Matter?

A nurse leader is the one who brings individual nurses together to work as one unified team. Without nurse leaders, independent nurses would continue to function separately which in turn would cause them to miss out on the opportunities to acquire communication techniques and both professional and personal growth. While bringing the nursing team to work together, a nurse leader ensures that every nurse adheres to the high standards of safety and quality.

Nurse leaders are the pillars of any healthcare system, where they bridge the gap between the policy and practice within the system. They sustain the rigorous standards of care that patients and their families anticipate from healthcare facilities. This practice not only helps them to safeguard their patients but also aids them to maintain trust in their nursing team and the overall nursing profession.

How does IHM Help in creating Global Nurse Leaders of Tomorrow

The path to becoming a nurse leader is although challenging but is definitely rewarding. IHM believes that nurses with the right training and support can become excellent and innovative nursing leaders of tomorrow.

Although nursing is an essential practice, there are evident differences in nursing consuetudes in different parts of the world. Factors such as the variations in topography, economic standing, religious beliefs and the healthcare system of a country affect the way a nurse conducts their job. From education, registration and accreditation to conditions in which medication and care are administered, the nursing practice varies immensely across the globe.
